Dietrich Enns
Dietrich Enns Sharper in first relief appearance
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 8:47 AM
Enns tossed three scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rays. He allowed four hits and struck out two.
Analysis: Enns made his last outing as a starter on July 3, when he allowed eight runs (seven earned) across four innings. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch announced a few days later that the lefty would shift to the bullpen, and Wednesday's appearance was his first in that role. Enns worked exclusively as a starter for the Tigers and Triple-A Toledo prior to Wednesday, so he should at least be able to give the team some length as a reliever, and he was effective in his first stint.
Reese Olson
Reese Olson Settles for another no-decision
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 8:39 AM
Olson allowed two runs on six hits across five innings and did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Rays. He walked two and struck out one.
Analysis: Olson was making his second start since returning from the injured list after he missed about six weeks due to a finger injury. The righty covered 4.1 innings in his return Friday and managed to last a little longer Wednesday, though he settled for his second straight no-decision. Olson tossed 84 pitches in his most recent outing and looked fairly sharp, so it appears that he's shaking off the rust and rounding back into form. The 25-year-old will carry a strong 2.95 ERA into the All-Star break, and he's currently lined up to face the Rangers on the road in Detroit's first game of the second half on July 18.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Doubles twice, drives in run
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:17 PM
McKinstry went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: While Detroit's offense didn't really get rolling in this one, McKinstry managed to continue his strong July. The utility player is batting .310 this month with five extra-base hits in nine games. Overall, McKinstry is batting .286 with a robust .826 OPS, and he's been a pleasant surprise from an offensive standpoint for the surging Tigers.
Chase Lee
Chase Lee Hit hard in first loss
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:11 PM
Lee (4-1) allowed four runs on five hits while retiring only one batter to take the loss Wednesday against the Rays.
Analysis: Lee entered in the sixth inning with Detroit leading 3-2 and unraveled quickly to take his first loss in the majors. The rookie righty had been pitching well, as he came into the game with a 2.05 ERA across 30.2 innings, but he saw that number jump up to 3.19. Lee will look to get back on track soon, and his performance to date suggests he'll be able to shake off his first truly rough outing at the MLB level.
Alex Cobb
Alex Cobb Still having hip soreness
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 3:17 PM
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Cobb (hips) threw a bullpen session Tuesday but was "still symptomatic," Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Cobb has received injections in both hips, including one last week in his surgically repaired left hip. However, he's still experiencing discomfort. Hinch said that the Tigers will "continue to try to nudge" Cobb forward, but the veteran right-hander remains without a timetable to resume his rehab assignment. Cobb previously made three starts in the minors before being pulled off the assignment in mid-June.
Dillon Dingler
Dillon Dingler Getting breather
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:15 PM
Dingler is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Rays.
Analysis: Dingler had started at catcher in each of the Tigers' previous three games, so he'll be given some rest Wednesday. Jake Rogers will fill in behind the dish and bat ninth as Detroit goes for the sweep.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Day off Wednesday
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 1:13 PM
Baez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Baez started the first two games of the series, going 1-for-7 with a home run. He'll receive a day of rest in the finale, with Zach McKinstry handling shortstop and Colt Keith playing third base.
Will Vest
Will Vest Strikes out side for 15th save
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:50 AM
Vest worked around a hit to toss a scoreless inning of relief and earn the save in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays. He struck out three.
Analysis: Vest continued his strong recent stretch of play, as he's now rattled off seven straight scoreless appearances, and he's struck out 11 batters during that time. The veteran righty is starting to pull away as Detroit's top closing option, as he has a team-high 15 saves compared to nine for Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle only has two saves since the beginning of June, while Vest has compiled seven saves over that stretch. Both players have pitched well and deserve attention in fantasy leagues, but Vest is the preferred target at the moment.
Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty Pitches well in no-decision
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:42 AM
Flaherty allowed just two runs on seven hits across 6.1 innings but settled for a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays. He walked one and struck out eight.
Analysis: Over his last two starts, Flaherty has allowed five runs across 11.1 innings while striking out 17, but he's settled for no-decisions both times. It's at least a step in the right direction for the veteran righty, who was tagged for 18 runs across 13 innings in his previous three outings. Overall, it's been an up-and-down year for Flaherty, and his ERA is sitting at 4.70, up from the 3.17 mark he posted during the 2024 regular season for the Tigers and Dodgers. He'll look to keep building momentum in his next scheduled start, which is currently lined up for Sunday against the Mariners at home.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Homers, drives in three Tuesday
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:31 AM
Keith went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays.
Analysis: With Detroit trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Keith singled home a run to tie the game. He then had an even bigger hit two innings later, breaking the tie with a two-run home run, his eighth long ball of the season and second in as many days. Keith has been dialed in lately, recording a .441 batting average and 1.281 OPS over his last 10 contests. The 23-year-old has also settled in as Detroit's main leadoff option recently, and he's responded well in the role.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson Goes deep again in win
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 7:25 AM
Torkelson went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays.
Analysis: Torkelson mashed his 21st home run of the season in the fourth inning to help the Tigers increase their league-leading win total to 59. The slugger has now gone deep four times over his last eight games, and his career high of 31 long balls, which he recorded back in 2023, is within reach if Torkelson can stay healthy. To date, he's played in 87 of Detroit's 93 contests and is second on the team in homers and RBI, trailing All-Star starter Riley Greene in both categories.
Alex Lange
Alex Lange Pulled off rehab assignment
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 3:54 PM
Lange has been pulled off his rehab assignment due to mild tightness in his surgically repaired right lat, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Monday that "it's not a setback" with Lange, but "just a delay." Lange has allowed just one run with a 9:1 K:BB over 6.2 rehab innings and seems close to activation from the 60-day injured list, but now his timeline is up in the air.
Devin Smeltzer
Devin Smeltzer Gets MiLB deal with Detroit
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 9:37 AM
The Tigers signed Smeltzer to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Smeltzer had been pitching in the Mexican League and has not seen any action at the big-league level since 2023. The left-hander will give the Tigers some experienced swingman depth at Triple-A Toledo.
Zach McKinstry
Zach McKinstry Goes deep in win
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 9:29 PM
McKinstry went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-1 win over the Rays.
Analysis: McKinstry launched his seventh home run of the season in the seventh inning, which was one of three Detroit long balls on the night. The veteran utility player continued his strong recent play, as he's now batting .344 over his last 10 games with three home runs, four RBI and eight runs scored. Overall, McKinstry is sporting a .285 batting average and an .819 OPS, both of which are significantly above his career marks of .233 and .678, respectively.
Colt Keith
Colt Keith Big effort in win
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 9:10 PM
Keith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-1 win over the Rays.
Analysis: Keith batted leadoff and delivered his second three-hit effort of the season, which included his seventh home run of the year. His other three-hit performance came just five days ago, and the 23-year-old is now batting a robust .450 this month with five extra-base knocks across six games. The left-hand hitting Keith is still sitting regularly against southpaws, but the youngster is developing into a dynamic offensive player when facing righties.
Javier Baez
Javier Baez Launches 10th homer
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 9:10 PM
Baez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Monday's 5-1 victory over the Rays.
Analysis: Baez took Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz deep in the second inning to open the game's scoring. With that long ball, the 32-year-old reached double-digit homers for the seventh time in his career, his first time reaching that mark since 2022 -- his first season in Detroit. Through 273 total plate appearances, Baez is now slashing .279/.315/.453 with 41 runs scored and 39 RBI, as he's set to make third All-Star appearance next week.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Notches quality start in win
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 8:55 PM
Montero (4-1) earned the win in Monday's game against the Rays, allowing one run on four hits and one walk across six innings with four strikeouts.
Analysis: The Detroit right-hander required only 68 pitches, 47 of which were strikes, to secure his second quality start of the season. The only blemish on Montero's performance was a Jonathan Aranda RBI single in the third, as the Tampa Bay lineup was unable to mount any momentum because they managed only one extra-base hit -- a Chandler Simpson double in the fifth. Despite owning a respectable 3.77 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB across 62 big-league frames, Montero appears to have made this start to provide the Tigers rotation additional rest around the All-Star break. He is likely to be shuttled back to Triple-A Toledo, where he's pitched to a 5.87 ERA in 23 innings this season.
Keider Montero
Keider Montero Recalled ahead of start
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 2:17 PM
The Tigers recalled Montero from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Montero will start for the Tigers in Monday's series opener versus the Rays. The righty has posted a 4.02 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB over 56 frames with the big club this season. Montero could be headed back to Toledo after Monday's outing.
Wenceel Perez
Wenceel Perez Taking seat Monday
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 2:17 PM
Perez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Zach McKinstry will step in as the Tigers' right fielder Monday while Perez heads to the bench after starting in each of the last six games. Perez's season got off to a delayed start after he missed the first two months of the campaign due to a lumbar spine inflammation, but he's provided Detroit with another impact bat since making his return. Through 34 games, the 25-year-old has cobbled together a .261/.312/.539 slash line with seven home runs, one stolen base, 19 RBI and 19 runs.
Bailey Horn
Bailey Horn Headed back to Triple-A
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 2:15 PM
The Tigers optioned Horn to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: He's clearing out to free up a spot on the roster for the addition of Keider Montero, who was called up from Triple-A to start in Monday's game against the Rays. Horn has made three relief appearances for the Tigers this season, yielding one run with a 3:1 K:BB over 2.2 innings.
